Road to the Final
The start of each Lexus Song Quest marks the beginning of an exhilarating ride for a special group of New Zealand’s best young singers. As with any journey, there are the joys of adventure, some roadblocks to navigate, and delight when we reach our destination. Plus we learn heaps along the way…
1. GET PREPARED
Entrants are required to prepare a six-item programme (see Music Preparation for more info) and to perform three of these (selected by the Preliminary Judges) at the preliminary auditions. Overseas students enter by submitting a DVD recording.
2. MAKE YOUR APPLICATION - DEADLINE 6PM, 31 MARCH 2016

3. PRELIMINARY AUDITIONS - HELD 16-20 MAY 2016
Every singer who enters the Lexus Song Quest has an opportunity to audition in locations throughout New Zealand (16-20 May 2016). They travel to the audition and provide both the accompanist and music.
Our Preliminary Judges will select the semi-finalists. By the end of May, competitors have received the call to say whether they’ll proceed to the next round.
4. SEMI-FINAL TIME - FROM 11 JULY 2016
Semi-finalists meet in Wellington over the week commencing Monday 11 July 2016 to work with head international judge Yvonne Kenny. Competitors take part in photoshoots, filming and media interviews. Semi-finalists also submit a detailed study proposal to be discussed with the head judge during the masterclass week.
5. WHO'S GOING TO THE FINAL? 16-17 JULY
Our head judge will select four finalists at a series of live semi-final concerts held across two nights, 16 and 17 July 2016 in Wellington. Each semi-finalist will perform two songs and one aria with piano accompaniment.
6. THE SECRET'S OUT! FINALISTS ANNOUNCED 17 JULY 2016
Head Judge Yvonne Kenny will announce the four finalists at the conclusion of the Sunday evening concert semi-final concert.

7. LEXUS SONG QUEST GRAND FINAL - 23 JULY 2016
Auckland Town Hall is the prestigious venue for the 2016 Lexus Song Quest Grand Final. From 20 July contestants will be busy with rehearsals with maestro Edo de Waart and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and media calls.
On the night, each finalist will sing two contrasting items for piano accompanied by Terence Dennis and two arias accompanied by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Edo de Waart. The winner will be announced by Yvonne Kenny, live on stage – and the runner-up and third and fourth place-getters will also be awarded their prizes.
8. CROSSED THE FINISH LINE!
For the Lexus Song Quest prize-winners, there are exciting possibilities ahead for continuing the development of their careers, thanks to a great suite of prizes and scholarships.
